Saturday, January 23 at 6:30 p.m. Front Row Theater Dougherty Station Community Center, San Ramon Proceeds go to AAUW'S Non-Profit Educational Opportunities Fund A Celebration of Women in Film launched with Dangerous Beauty, a lavishly produced film set in 16th c. Venice and based on the true story of Veronica Franco, a renowned courtesan and published poet. Dr. Karen Van Zino, physician, author and lecturer, provided a lively commentary and led a brief discussion of how the experiences of this Renaissance beauty, who defied the conventions of her era, relate to issues faced by today's womenand men. The first annual film celebration was very successful with a capacity crowd. The audience enthusiastically agreed that the film was an unkown gem, quite entertaining and enlightening. The evening was made even more interesting with Dr. Van Zino's lively discussion of the film comparing and contrasting the issues facing Renaissance women and women today.
