A Celebration of Women in Film will show the movie Miss Potter, the true story of Beatrix Potter, best known for writing and illustrating a series of books for children featuring the unforgettable characters of Peter Rabbit, Squirrel Nutkin, Jemima Puddle-Duck, and many others.

This enchanting film, set in England during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, stars Renee Zellweger as Miss Potter, Ewan McGregor as her first love and business partner, and Emily Watson as her best friend and confidante. The famous author's story is especially relevant to 21st-century audiences, who will appreciate her aspirations and perseverance and cheer her lasting and remarkable legacy as both an author and conservationist.

The movie chronicles the first 40 years of this talented woman's life. Our speakers-Carmen Curtis and Judith Hedgpeth, members of the Beatrix Potter Society—will enrich the evening by sharing their insight into the last 40 years of Ms. Potter's life. She had a passion for and actively contributed to both land conservation and animal preservation. After the movie, they will lead a discussion and answer questions.
