Rose Loretta Helbling was born December 28, 1920, in St. Anthony, North Dakota, the eighth of nine children, to Germans from Russia immigrants, John Valentine Helbling and Ottillia Meuchel Helbling. During World War II, she moved to Seattle to find work. There Rose met and married Ted KNISER on Nov. 25, 1944. She is survived by her children, Joe Kniser, John Kniser, Mary Kloepfer and their families. Rose was mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother to many. Burial was in Willamette National Cemetery with her husband, Ted, who died in 1996.

Son of David and Katherina Helwer. In 1913, he left his home and immigrated to Winnipeg, Canada where he homesteaded, lived and worked. In 1915, he came to the United States and Russell, Kansas, where he made his home with an uncle, George Helwer. On January 14, 1917, he was married to Maria HEINZE by pastor William Harding in Russell. This happy union was blessed with one son, Edward, who was born on November 1, 1932. Maria died on January 10, 1986 after nearly 69 years of marriage to "Jake". He leaves to mourn his departure, his son, Edward J. Helwer of Wellington; three grandchildren: David L. Helwer of Boone, NC, Duane J. Helwer of Russell and Devea L. Nevin of Holcomb and five great-grandchildren. Burial in the Sylvan Grove Cemetery.

HENDRICH Family Reunion

The Hendrich family gathered on October 12th-14th with the Activity Center of the First Baptist Church in Wilson as their meeting place. On Saturday morning they were invited to visit the former family home. Dennis and Maureen Bunker were gracious hosts and took the group on a tour thru their home. This was a delight to the family and brought back many memories, The family also enjoyed a visit to the Wilson Czech Museum, learning more of the Czech history. After lunch they traveled to Lucas for tours of the Grassroots Art Center and the Garden of Eden. The remainder of the afternoon ws spent at the old farmstead south of Lucas where the family lived for many years. The Saturday evening meal was catered by Butch's Bar-B-Q of Ellsworth. Afterwards all enjoyed a slide presentation of the old family photos.
On Sunday morning the family attended Worship Service at the First Baptist Church. At noon a delicious chicken dinner was catered by the Brookville Hotel, Abilene. Late that afternoon it was time for good-byes after the enjoyable and special weekend together. One place was set with photo of Alice, to make the family circle of ten complete. Hosts for the occasion were Ed and Mildred Hlad, Sylvan Grove.

Mrs. Anna Galliart, daughter of George Andrew Herbel and his wife Julia nee Galliart, was born on January 6, 1874, in the village of Dreispitz, Russia. In the year 1893 she left her father and together with others arriving here in America at Wilson, Kansas. There upon working a few months in Barton County, until September 2, when she was united in holy matrimony with Adam GALLIART. To this union eleven children were born, 2 sons and 9 daughters (7 of whom, 1 son and 6 daughters preceded her in death). Besides a host of friends and acquaintances, she leaves to mourn her bereaved husband, one son, Ruben Galliart of Dorrance and 3 daughters, Mrs. Alex Stoppel of Dorrance, Mrs. Mollie Jones of Bunker Hill; and Alvina Galliart of Dorrance. Also 5 grandchildren and 2 preceded her in death. Two brothers, Dave and Gottfried Herbel of Dorrance; and one sister, Mrs. Reinhart Steinle also of Dorrance. Interment was made at the Dorrance Cemetery.

Mr. Herbel was just a boy when his parents died, being about 7 years old when his mother died and 12 when his father died. He came to America in 1892 locating at Hillsboro, Kansas. He was married to Anna HEINZE on February 2,1899 at Dorrance, Kansas. Mr. Herbel leaves to mourn him, his wife and a grandson, Dwight Feil of the home, also the following children, Mrs. Fred Kvasnicka; Mrs. Oliver Vonada, Carl Herbel and Alex Herbel all of Lucas and Mrs. Reuben Galliart of Dorrance, Kansas; four grandsons and two granddaughters. Born to Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Herbel (different then the obit above). At the age of 19 years, he decided to come to America. He then worked to send his dear old Mother and Younger brother, Gotfred money to live on. At Claflin, KS, he met and married Julia STEINLE LONGHOFER in 1893. Mr. and Mrs. Herbel were blessed with six children, three boys and three girls. In the year 1900 Mr. Herbel sent money out to Dreispitz, Russia and brought his Mother and younger brother Gotfred to the United States where they stayed with him until he was married in 1904. The Old Homestead, 1 mile south and 1 1/2 miles west of Dorrance, now is owned by Reinhart & wife Julia and is occupied by their son Everett and his wife. He traveled to Lucas and worked with his uncle, Dave Herbel. On June 4, 1923, in Lucas he married Amalie (Mollie) KELLER also of Dreispitz, Russia. Miss Herbel and Mr. George GALLIART were married in Russia Dec. 5, 1884. Several years later Mr. and Mrs. Galliart, and some of their children, who were born in Russia, came to this country. The marriage was blessed with eight children. Mr. Galliart passed away June 4, 1931. Four of her children also preceded Mrs. Galliart in death. She is mourned by two sons, Adam Galliart of Larned and Reinhard of Ellinwood; two daughters, Mrs. George Miller and Mrs. Harry Sieker of Ellinwood and by the widows of two of her sons, Mrs. Fronia Galliart of Lyons and Mrs. Amalia Galliart of Hutchinson. Fourteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren survive. One grandson, Fred Galliart, died in battle during World War II. Burial was in the Ellinwood Cemetery.

Irene passed away later after a lengthy illness April 1996. David married Molly KRAFT Herber in May 1997. Molly died in November 2001. Preceding David in death were his parents, his wives, Emma, Jewell, Irene and Molly, and also three brothers, Alex, Bill and Harry. When a child he came with his rents from Russia to America. In the year 1902, the parents returned to Russia, leaving David, his son, here in Okeene to make h is living at the carpenter trade. At the time of the great famine in Russia, after the World War, the parents returned to the USA and made their home with their son, David. Father Hetze preceded him in death a little over a year ago. His feeble mother and only sister and many friends are left to mourn.
